Opening of new playground
Addington Parish Council welcomed Deputy Mayor Cllr. Roger Roud and Deputy Mayoress Mrs Pam Roud at the official opening of our new playground on Sunday 13 October.
“Addington is a very special community and relies heavily on volunteers to maintain the wonderful recreation ground and village hall facilities. The Parish Council is very grateful to both the Recreation Ground and Village Hall committees for all that they do.
The original playground equipment needed to be replaced a few years ago and the Parish Council stepped in to help with fund raising. The Parish Council went through a procurement process and consulted with residents about a design and resolved to use Sutcliffe Play for the new equipment.
The Parish Council was in a position to donate £25,000.00 having acquired this fund through careful financial planning over the last few years. The Parish Council also had the foresight to request that monies obtained from a recent development in the village, known as Section 106 funds, were ear-marked for this project which had made up the shortfall.
The new playground is aimed at the younger child and there is a nature trail adjacent to this aimed at the older child. The Parish Council hope that the children of the village, neighbouring villages and visitors enjoy both these facilities for many years to come which will be maintained by the volunteer network.
I am delighted to open this facility.”
